I ordered this book as a dream book, for fun and pretty pictures, but I was surprised to find practical information as well (how to change tires; why you don't need to take a chemical toilet camping; how to power those outdoor clawfoot bathtubs you see on TV commercials that shall be nameless here, since anybody who has to take dangerous prescriptions to do THAT would be better off hunting erotic alternatives). In fact,I've bought several (admittedly) short, cheap, and "practical" books on RVing, and while they have their virtues, Mary Jane combines useful hints with a broad range of subjects, like buying and restoring your trailer, recipes I want to try at home, how to host a glamping soiree, and why you shouldn't usually take children and dogs glamping (she needs to write at least one book on kid- and dog-friendly expeditions, too, since she approves of them as separate activities). And she covers actually hitching up the trailer in better detail than any book I've seen so far. And, like her magazine, it does have lovely pictures. Note: This book isn't just about trailer/campers; she covers porch camping, expedition tents (a species I'd forgotten existed) and "learncations" (study something you've always wanted to in a gorgeous setting). In short, this book is a great gift for yourself, your homegirls, and your adventurous mama and grandma (Mother's Day is coming up)!
MaryJane Butters new book, Glamping is a joy and delight to read and refer back to as you plan a little escape. I live on a farm of 40 acres and am a caregiver to my mom, so I can not just grab my keys and leave when I feel the need for a little vacation. Glamping is the answer! I can sleep under the stars in style and comfort. I have a choice of glamping on the porch, and having the convenience of laptop and Kindle, or purest camping in a comfy and pretty tent, or slip away into the vintage camper at the pond.Glamping should be on your Christmas wish list of you want a fun read, a bit of nostalgia, and really easy instructions for projects around your picnic or camping area.Enjoy!
I gave this to my mom who is part of "sisters on the fly" and she LOOOOOVES it! It is full of great information and fun stories, it even has projects to enhance your glamping experience. She mentions how much she likes it often, weeks after she received it, so I know it was a hit.
I am very pleased with this book! I have camped across the USA and have had good and bad experiences. This book will give women of all ages confidence to set out on the glamping trail and see the sights.
My friend had this in their RV, as their coffee table book, and I just loved it! Such a good, fun and helpful guide to glamping. I borrowed theirs after I bought my own ‘63 Scotty but ended buying my own copy because it’s a keeper.
This is a delightful read! I have been camping for years and just realized what I've been missing. I definitely need to Glamp it up! No need to leave glamour behind just because you are roughing it.
I have other MaryJane Butters books and I can appreciate what she stands for. I am definitely NOT as earthy as she is, but, I still enjoyed this particular book. I haven't read it front to back, but, there is a lot of eye candy and some very helpful advice included. If you follow her advice, I can't help but think you wouldn't have a very pleasant "Glamping" experience. . .if that's your thing!
I almost want to call this a coffee table book. The photos are really fun to look at. Whether you're actually into fixing up old trailers or just dream of an occasional escape, this book is informative, well written and beautiful.
