Stan Lee's How to Draw Comics is a starter guide to drawing comics aimed at beginners.It introduces the world of comics and what you need to create them. It covers the basic topics like drawing, storytelling, finding work, etc. There are lots of useful comic creation tips discussed, complimented by examples from popular artists like Jack Kirby, Neal Adams, Frank Cho and the likes.This isn't a technical book so there aren't any how-to or step-by-step tutorials. When you finish the book, you'll know what it takes to create comics but you'll have to get other comic drawing books to learn the technical skills. Most of the chapters introduced in this book are actually subjects that already have whole books devoted to them.This book is recommended to beginners who have absolutely no prior knowledge on creating comics. I was so happy when this came in the mail sooner then expected. Its in great condition. I mistook this book though for Tehran Stan Lee book that was at my art college and accidentally bought the wrong one. It has great tips on how to make comics and storytelling at least a little bit which includes panels and perspective( WHICH I'M SUPER GLAD BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT I WANTED) Although it doesn't go into great detail with the perspective.Also this book is best for later part of intermediate or skilled level of artists. It's definitely not for beginnings.
We bought this for our two youngest sons, they both have a huge artistic talent. They loved both of the Marvel books we bought on how to draw. My husband who is also a very talented artist also loved the books. They not only have the drawing picture parts, but also a lot of other information on the characters, Stan Lee etc,,,,,
I was a bit disappointed in this one. I thought this might be an updated version of the other Stan Lee's How to Draw Comics but it feels waaaay off to me. This is information you could easily get free somewhere else and frankly I don't think it offered any interesting or terribly useful insight if you are looking for a good companion guide for sequential art/comics. It felt like Stan Lee slapped his name on this title and put it on the shelf to be sold. The content feels like a very hasty montage. I might go back and get the older edition but this one was a bit disappointing.
Great book for a new artist, an experienced comic book artist, or anyone just interested in the subject of comics. Lots of useful information from learning to draw all the way to breaking into the business. Stan Lee really covers a lot of bases in this book. Highly recommend.
This is a great "reference book" for those in and trying to get into the comic book business. I found it very interesting, but I believe the title is misleading. The book doesn't really cover a whole of drawing fundamentals like "How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way". I think Stan was trying to recapture the magic from that book and this one just doesn't.With that being said, the book has a ton of information for those already involved in comics either professionally or as a hobby. If you are beginner, I would recommend you get this book only if you have already read some of the basic books out there, such as "How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way".
Don't get me wrong I love Marvel comics. Stan Lee has done amazing work. There is one thing missing. Lacking was various angles in which your hero or villain may find him/herself in. For example viewing your character from the side can be tough. Also hands and feet can be tough. Other wise this book is awesome including how to get published and offered what software is available to enhance your work with computers. Overall I recommend this book.

Previous reviews have exalted the wonderful Stan Lee and he's a hero of mine. I cannot express enough how much I appreciate his art and his influence on the entire comic community, and the art world in general.He's an icon, and a deserved one.This book, of itself, is great - it offers insight and the presentation is wonderful. The quality of the paper is top rate and it's a fine looking book.I do have an issue with this autographed volume, however and that is that the SIGNATURE of Mr.Stan Lee is NOT on the book itself. The signature is on a bookplate which has been placed in the beginning of this book.For an autograph collector or an autographed book collector - that is a significant point. I do collect autographed books and likely would not have purchased this volume if I'd have known that the autograph itself was on a book plate.Also, the autograph isn't on the "numbered" page. These two points might not mean anything to someone who is not a collector, but they certainly change the value of the book.My three stars are only because of those points. In my opinion, precise information should have been given in the description of this edition - indicating a book plate autograph.If you're considering purchasing this book, please keep that in mind.
