I've read the book multiple times now. I find it full of fun stories and practical tips that can help you become a better storyteller. And although it's primarily visual storytelling much of it can be applied to audio and text as well. Great stuff, highly recommend it. Main downside? It finish reading it too fast!

The book has been one of the worse books I have ever read regarding media skills. As a professional journalist, I found some of the suggestions in this book more fictional than truth related news gathering.

Fine intro text if you're just starting out on your TS journey. I came across it about a year after our child's diagnosis and by then I'd already run into all this information elsewhere and frankly, it doesn't go into much detail in a way that would have been really helpful. A far better resource is the recorded seminar for new families at the Tourette's Syndrome Association [...] You'll probably want to watch it a couple of times. I draw on that information constantly.

As a grandparent of a child diagnosed with TS, I found this book to be the most informative for the lay person. It touched on almost every question I had and had a great reference section for more in depth subjects. It was practical and helped with all the decisions you might have to make: how to pick a doctor, meds or not, handling child's social interactions, helping school set up a teaching plan, getting in touch with local and national support groups and organizations, etc. I was able to talk with his parents and understood what they were dealing with. They had to also confront their own feelings and appreciated being able to talk to someone who cared about them also.

Wish I had this book years ago when my daughter was first diagnosed! I recommend this book to every parent with a child with TS. There's so much more information in this book than any other book/web-site/pamphlet etc... all together in one book! I first found this book at the library and kept referring back to it that I just had to buy my own copy!Includes excellent advice on how to work with your child's school.

This is a great book for parents learning how to deal with tourette's. It gives very helpful advice and insight into dealing with the syndrome. We reference it frequently for our children.

I ended up going to a natural health practitioner and we did candida yeast cleansing, which brought up his protein levels and eliminated his symptoms. Then after a recurrence, we did it again and went on to detox mercury with iodine therapy. Mercury overstimulates dopamine. This permanently cured him. Much better than living with it.

I coordinate a program for middle school students where we do H.W. after school. One of our students this year has Tourette Syndrome (TS), which has to be frustrating to the student, his family, his friends, and his teachers. His mom gave me a copy of this book. It really shows me that every case of TS is different and may actually change a bit over time. Any educator who has a student with this disorder would benefit by read this book. It is probably a good idea even if the teacher does not have a student with TS. What happened was that in describing the symptoms, I realized that I probably had students with a mild version of TS in the past. If I had read the book, it might have helped me fit a piece into the puzzle. I am going to purchase 3 copies of this book, one for the library in my town, one for the library in the town I work in, and one for the library in the school where our H.W. Club meets.

Oooooh, wow. I really wish I had looked more closely at the reviews before buying this. It's an absolute, "nope."If you already are inclined towards sociopathic-type behaviors, you'll probably get a really fantastic pep talk from reading this.For the rest of us, the glib conversational nature of this book should serve as a red flag. The grandiose boasting should serve as a red flag. The "believe what I'm telling you, but everyone else is a liar and part of a conspiracy theory" should be a red flag.There's a true disconnect with the writer. He speaks in absolutes about people and the world, and wants you, the reader, to trust him as the only savior.If you still happen to want to give it a chance, I request that you still use your ability to reason; to question his words and stories objectively and decide if implementing his advice will actually "serve" you.

Chapter 19 of the book begins, "Before we move into our action plan," which is appropriate because you can literally skip the first 18(!) chapters and be no less enlightened. Will update review if said action plan materializes.If you've been to college, these first 18 chapters are an annoying diatribe about higher education that may or may not reflect your experience, and certainly doesn't change the past. If you haven't been to college, just be sure to examine the cost-effectiveness of the tuition (and interest) before going and what you expect to get out of it. It isn't "garbage" as the author would have you believe, which is a weirdly unnecessary hill to die on for the simple task of selling the reader on the concept of passive, independent income. Lighten up Francis, we bought the book for a dang reason.

This book states the obvious and I didn't learn a thing reading it.The author's brags a lot about his success online but when I looked at his youtube channel there was only about one hundred followers. Not my definition of success.

Should've read the reviews before I bought this. Full of rants on how terrible things are, which is great to open people's eyes to the truth, but that's ALL it is. At least as far as I got. After reading a number of chapters, I realized that every chapter ended with a "this problem ends now," but then the next chapter was just more ranting on more terrible stuff about the world, the government, the economy, employers, the education system, etc. NO ANSWERS! Where's the "how to escape the 9-5"?? Other reviewers have said the end of the book points the reader to the author's website where he sells products that supposedly take you further...I did not buy this to read a 400+ page infomercial for additional products. I wanted what the title promised.I gave up after a number of chapters because I just couldn't take another bait-and-switch chapter ending that just led into more ranting, no solutions. Such a disappointment -- at first the author seemed to be a no-bs guy who'd give it to you straight. Apparently not.Save your money and look elsewhere, unless you're just looking for a treatise on how awful things are.

Jonathan Green surprised me. I read a lot and try to learn as much as I can from people and he truly is a remarkable person, who has a unique perspective on life and how to beat the system and has actually done this. Heck, he's still doing it. If you're even remotely interested in breaking away from your day job, becoming financially independent and making it as an entrepreneur - DO NOT miss out on this book. Read it, listen to the audible version, whatever it takes, just as long as you get this information. I've found his book a true inspiration and fully intend to implement as much as I can in my life. I have already purchased a domain name and web hosting and I'm building my website.Thank you so much, Jonathan Green!

This is a very inspiring book. It's not so much a nuts-and-bolts manual, but he provides a resource page. It's a great chance to see how a successful entrepreneur thinks and acts. The book also makes a strong case for minimalism and its freeing effects.

The book, tells the story of how Jonathan overcame being fired, to now running his own business from a tropical island! As I read, I found I could identify because he was fired from being a professor (which I currently am), was naturally soft-spoken, (thatâ€™s me too) and had no entrepreneurial training (they donâ€™t teach you that in college).This isnâ€™t just a story, although he uses his experience to teach, it is a how-to manual on following him to success. Throughout the book, he emphasizes action, since not starting is a sure path to failure. Hopefully, he will approve, since this blog was started, with his encouragement, while reading his book!He says in his book â€œYou can become anything you want once you realize that itâ€™s just about putting in the effortâ€. His self-proclaimed mission to help others overcome their boss and all the risks that come from a job are clearly proclaimed throughout the book.He covers topics such as networking, writing, cost control, selling, marketing, goal setting (they should be written!), motivation, failure, and more. He covers them in a conversational manner, so it seems like you are talking to a friend. I feel like he is a friend after reading this book!

Watson was a Scot, an alien living in Louisiana. He joined the CSA voluntarily and fought bravely, being twice wounded. His book is a contemporary account and gives the lie to the beliefs that secession was uniformly believed to be a good thing in the South (it was at best supported by half the population); and that the war was one in which the South fought to "preserve slavery" and the North to "abolish slavery." These ideas are widely held today, but Watson's first hand experiences with fellow soldiers and Union prisoners contradict them; as do Union memoirs, who emphatically assert the goal was to preserve the Union and nothing else. Watson has low regard for the Confederate government and Army officers (most especially Bragg) and always felt the Confederacy was doomed from Day One. He regarded Ben Butler, the Union officer in charge at New Orleans as the Devil incarnate; and the Emancipation Proclamation as a pointless political exercise. Modern Americans, steeped in the Politically Correct view of the war should read this account if only to discover how one who fought in it viewed the conflict, its reasons for happening, and its outcomes in a different light. Then read Union memoirs and note the points of similarity of view.

The author is a British subject and many of his views are from an outsider's perspective. He is not totally sympathetic to the Southern cause and does not agree with slavery. He was a member of a Louisiana militia before the war and remains with them through the early stages. He describes the fighting he is in in the early western battles. Later, he is captured and paroled, and observes the Union occupation of New Orleans. His views on much of this are different from most other histories, but his ideas are reasonable

The western theater of the Civil War gets short shirt compared to the cataclysmic battles of the East, yet it can be argued that the war was decided on the Mississippi, not the Potomac. This book, written by a Scotsman who served in the Confederate Army for a year, covers soldier life and occupied New Orleans for the first two years of the war.Where it shines, though, is in the period between the election of Lincoln in November 1860 and the outbreak of fighting in April of 1861. The political crisis, often neglected, gets full coverage...with the case made that prompt action by the Buchanan administration might have averted the conflict. Well worth reading for this alone.

Cannot recommend this book too highly. This Scotsman in Baton Rouge tells what it was like in the run up to the Civil War and what it was like to fight in that war.This is a scary book. Nobody thought there would be a war. That would be just too crazy. Everybody thought cooler heads in D.C. would prevail.Read this book.

Of the hundreds of books, manuscripts and articles I have read during decades of study on the Civil War this book tops the list of personal narratives. It is eloquently written but highly readable. ANY student of the American Civil War should own and re read Watson' s book often. My only regret is that so many years have passed without my knowledge of this account. I have recommended this book to several friends. Truly a Must Read.

An excellent overview product provided by a British citizen who joined he Louisiana Volunteers early in the event of the Civil War. I found the perspective to be refreshing, especially the discussions of "government vs party" in light of current events. I would recommend reading this book-"man must learn from history or be forced to repeat it".

A must read for any student of the Civil War. The author gives his analysis of the real causes, enactment, and conclusion of the conflict from the point of a Scotsman. Reflecting views from both sides with impartiality.The last chapter unfortunately details the faults of the government at that time that remain in all political systems today.

Like to read the actual words from a soldier who experienced the Civil War. Watson's account is insightful, sensitive and articulate. He grasps the big picture and has precise observations of what is happening and is able to write clearly to capture his insights. Great book!

Who does not love a Ferris wheel? This beautifully illustrated picture book is part history and part biography. It relates a story of dogged determination by a mechanical engineer named George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr. When a nationwide contest was held to create a feature centerpiece for the 1893 Chicago's World Fair, Ferris became determined to best the Eiffel Tower that France had built in 1889. George was a steel expert; he knew he could succeed in his plan to build a huge revolving wheel based on his childhood memories of a water wheel. Together with his partner, William Gronau, he finally convinced the judges to let him try. They refused to finance him so he raised his own money. With only a few months left, Ferris dug through frozen ground and layers of quicksand. A giant steel axle in cement would hold the wheel in place. Thousands of parts had to be transported to the site. By opening day in June the huge wheel with spokes like a bicycle measured 834 feet in circumference and rose 265 feet above the surface. Powered by underground steam engines and lit by the newly invented electric lights, the ride mystified and amazed fairgoers.Elementary and middle school readers will not only delight in the beautiful illustrations, but they hopefully will be inspired to persevere in their quest to achieve their own dreams. Recommended especially for children who like inventions, history and reading about interesting people. This hardcover book should be in every library and classroom. The designing of his invention and his need for donations to cover the cost are explained in a way young readers can understand, and his race to complete the Ferris Wheel by the World's Fair adds some suspense to this picture book.Many children have ridden a Ferris wheel, but even those who have not, can recognize the structure and appreciate the story of how this came to be an amusement park staple.I've purchased this for my own library already, and am definitely adding it to my next school library order. Gibbs Davis alwYs dies excellent research and delivers the info in such an accessible interesting way that this and her other books appeal to adults and children both. I am a fairly morbid person so I find books about death to be fascinating. This book did not disappoint in that regard; I found it very interesting and entertaining. However, as other reviewers have said, there are many mistakes in this book. There are factual errors regarding the deaths at Disneyland and the Heaven's Gate cult, for example. These errors were so glaring that I do not know how the author could have screwed up his facts so badly. Even the most basic of research would have eliminated these mistakes. So although I found the book enjoyable to read, I could not trust what I was reading. Anytime I came to a subject I didn't already have prior knowledge of, I would wonder if what I was reading was factually correct. It tends to ruin your reading experience if you feel like you have to do your own research to confirm what you have read is true. I hope they re-release a corrected version of this book; that I would rate five stars. As it is, I can only give this book three stars.

This book is full of things I would never even think you could die from. It's done in an A-Z format and next to the word is a short story of how people have or could die from such a thing. I haven't read it all the way yet, I'm about half way through, but I really like it and it has a real cool set up with how its illustraited and all. It makes it entertaining to read. I really like fact/ trivia type books of this nature. So it's really interesting to me.

good book if your into this kind of thing, and morbid mentality in general, factual and amusing at times and informative. Second book by this author. Pretty good.

Not that the misinformation mattered.This book wasn't really educational, fun,or informative. Just- blah.I did get my copy for a penny plus shipping. Worth the price, I guess.

His 'Solo Flight' takes us to many of these amazing places where the pioneers started and where they achieved greatness in the early days of aviation. Not only do we learn about the amazing history but we also enjoy Owen's flight with all the reliability and technology that aviation offers us today.This is a story of about airmanship, it is a story about the history of aviation in Australia but most of all it is a story that captures the true passion of flight. Its a book for anyone who has ever gazed at the sky and wondered: 'What if I could......' and it comes with my absolute highest recommendation. I know that you will love it.

As an aircrft enthusiast my view is totally unrepresentatve, but I loved it as it reminded me of those rollicking adventure stories I read as a boy. I was engrossed in the trip and impressed with Owen's meticulous attention to detail. As they say: "There are old pilots and bold pilots, but there are no old bold pilots". As well as being a great read, it should be required reading for any trainee pilot.

One of the best things about this book is that it would appeal to a range of ages. The writing is very clear and supplemented with some really outstanding photographs -- there's a "something for everyone" element to it. You could say it's like a great geography lesson in the form of a true-life adventure. Informative and entertaining and always moving, I'd recommend "Solo Flight" without reservation.

Owen has this wonderful ability to make you feel you are his co-pilot as he describes his solo flight around Australia in another beautifully written book. As he takes you on his journey from planning to successful completion, you share with Owen his passion for flight and the emotions surrounding his visits to places of interest including those he once visited with his dear dad, a decorated Korean war veteran pilot.His vision and sheer determination to make this flight a reality is a great story in itself. The adventure is so well told you feel you have been on this journey too. For those of us who can only wonder what it must be like to take to the skies with an aircraft at our command, through 'Solo Flight' we are given the opportunity to share this exhilarating experience.

Owen's latest book has something for just about everyone. As he weaves his way around Australia, the reader is woven into not only the history of aviation in Australia, but his personal history as well. As someone who inherited the aviation gene from his parents (and who also lost a father to cancer), I felt like I was sitting in the right seat on the journey.With a busy life, I often find it hard to read more than a few pages at a time of any book, but kept finding an excuse to go back and read "just one more chapter". There was no cliff-hanger and no plot twist, but I found myself compelled to find out what that next day would be like.

Owen's done it again. He takes the reader not only on a ride around our wide brown land, but also through the planning stages and the amount of work involved in getting such a venture off the ground. Owen combines the best of both worlds for an aviation geek like me: not only can he fly and fly well, but he can also relate his experiences eloquently, putting the reader in the copilots's seat. Highly recommended.
