This book is based on evidence rather than being biased. Excellent Reading.

If you are from Iran or not, its a must read. Gives insight to thecomplexity of Politics in the Middle East and how being patrioticis perceived by the governments outside of Iran. Needless to saychange of government when orchestrated from abroad does havebad results in the long run, in Iran, Iraq, or any other country.

The book contains a series of essays fleshing out the circumstances of the 1953 overthrow of Mossadeq. The American sponsored coup ended a decade long struggle to democratize Iran, and the monarchy didn't face a serious political challenge again until it's demise in the revolution of 1979.The essays in this book address important questions: why was the National Front so weak? Why did it ultimately take so little to overthrow Mossadeq, and what was the role of the communist Tudeh party? Why did Eisenhower support the coup? It also raises some interesting questions: How did Mossadeq shift the economy completely away from oil dependency without causing mass unemployment or recession, what parties lost in that shift and what effect did they have on National Front support?Missing from the edition is a critical analysis of Mossadeq himself. He relied on mass demonstrations rather then political coalitions for power, and fundamentally did not seem to want power unless people begged him to accept it. Is it any wonder his partners turned on him?I'd recommend this as the second book people read for understanding 1953.

I really disliked this book. I understood that they wanted to give different perspectives and views on the coup and mossadeq, but I never heard of Mohammad Mosaddeq before, nor the coup of 1953 that is obviously overshadowed by the 1979. I was lost and confused. It was not a fun semester.

I'm one of those people that can pick out typing mistakes like crazy, and it drives me crazy when a textbook has them. So far I've only read the first chapter, so I may update more later, but any textbook with "here" instead of "her" and similar things shows me that they needed a proofreader. That's a lot of money to pay for something that they couldn't put the time into to proofread better!Update! At first I gave this 3 stars, but upon moving further into the book I'm changing it to 1 star! More and more errors. Extra words, sentences that don't make sense, Role Play scenarios that have errors on them. How am I supposed to learn with this book when I'm constantly trying to figure out what it's SUPPOSED to say, and how is that affecting my GRADES?

This book was required for my marketing class. After getting over the initial shock of how overpriced it is- it was a much smaller book than I had envisioned, also- I thought it must have some great information within its covers. Most things discussed are interesting, although I feel like I knew some of it already. The thing that really got me was the grammatical errors and typos throughout the book. I might be what you call a grammar nazi- I have been known to correct people in the midst of speaking- so it was very difficult for me to pay attention to what I was supposed to be learning when I was suddenly possessed by the desire to take a red pen to all the pages and correct the errors. It seems like even the editors found the information so boring they couldn't be bothered to read through it properly. As for me, I just can't take a textbook seriously with those simple errors scattered throughout. They're supposed to be teaching me about marketing, but instead I get caught up in the typos.

I purchased this book for my Personal Selling course this semester. So far, I find the book informative, yet a very easy read- full of helpful hints and case studies. I think the most relevant thing is that there is focus on how to use the skills learned in the book as part of your every day life, as well as when you look to career choices and selling your resume.

I really like this book! It is very easy to comprehend for anyone looking to learn the principles/basics of selling. The graphics also keep even a child engaged, but the content is very helpful. Anyone interested in sales or looking to sell themselves better will benefit from this book.

I guess this was an ok book about sales. It was laid out fairly well but sometimes it seemed contradictory at times. The end of the chapter situations I felt unprepared to answer because I didn't feel the text went over how those situations would work out...

Many readers might not even realize that Spitz was in the 1968 Olympics, too, where he won “only” four medals. After that, he surprised all his coaches by going to college (and excelling) at Indiana University. I remember back when Mark Spitz won all of his Olympic medals in Munich and he impressed me then. Now I have in my library the story of the man who made such a deep impression on me and on the world. A humble man who will never be surpassed by anyone because he stayed straight and clean and out of the limelight unless he was in a pool. Really happy to have this addition to my library.

I purchased this book to send to Mark Spitz to sign, I haven't read it yet, but plan to. The accomplishments of Mr. Spitz were extraordinary, almost super human.

Seemed well-written and the presentation was nice in this book on this great swimmer.

I am a big time swimmer almost setting a national record when I was ten. I loved this book because it walked you through the meets and you could get a feel of the emotions at the time. I also got nervous when in parts of the book there was a lot of pressure on the peopleThe only thing that I did not like was that there were many typos

Great history and insight into a piece of athletic history

I would rename it the auto biography of an all American narcissist. Only worth skimming to the parts that would interest the individual reader.

I totally agree with the previous reviewers. As a middle-of-the-road recreational swimmer, I heard of Spitz for the first time only last month and never thought that this biography would keep me busy, not least because the genre itself isn't a great favourite of mine (I own just a handful of biographies). All I can say is that, despite Phelps' success in surpassing Spitz by winning 8 gold medals, I hardly think he can ever equal his predecessor's charismatic personality and (to quote the subtitle) 'extraordinary life'. Though it's a pity the photos are reproduced in b/w, I recommend this book without hesitation. You don't have to have an interest in swimming or sports in general to own it: if 'story' is what interests you, Spitz's story won't fail to move you.
