Not good to read to other people's kids. The story talks about the kid taking medicine for anxiety. I know meds are necessary at times but this isn't something i should read to students. Otherwise the stories other suggestions like doing art is good. As an artist i really disliked the art. Distractingly amateurish.
I cannot recommend this book enough. I am a speech pathologist and think it is great to read a book that talks about decreasing anxiety in a positive way. It is an easy read for a parent to read with their child.
As an Educational Therapist, I work with children with Learning Disabilities, many of whom experience anxiety as a integral part of their lives. Nervous Nellie has important, yet easily understood, information for all children who live with anxiety. I believe Nervous Nellie must be read and discussed often, and over time, with young children who are either about to enter treatment or who are already in treatment. It is written in a straightforward, easily understandable, yet thorough, style. This book is a wonderful resource for parents because it gives them words to help explain to their children what they are experiencing in their lives, or what they might experience once they begin treatment. I believe it will help children who experience anxiety see themselves in a more hopeful light.
Not great for preschool kids. I'm not crazy about the wording either.
I love the way that anxiety is described as it is easy to understand as other reviewers have commented. The only thing I am not fond of in the book is that Nellie is treated with pharmacological medication and as a therapist, I wish the book would have focused more on behavioral techniques to control anxiety.
This is a great book for kids dealing with anxiety written in a simple way that they can understand. It's a wonderful story about a girl who visits the doctor, gets treated for her anxiety with the therapy and medicine, and improves. There are also beautiful illustrations, which kids will love. Its great to find a book that kids suffering from anxiety can read!
Parents with children who are struggling with anxiety have a wonderful resource.Nervous Nellie hits on many of the issues that young children worry about and lead to stress for their parents.The book tells the story in a very relatable way. The illustrations and text are on target for young readers.Overall, a pleasure and a welcome addition to the genre of children literature with a message.
This is a great book, in simple language. A great resource for kids and parents who suffer anxiety.
