I never put spoilers in my reviews.I'm picky about my fantasy. I want the worlds to be as believable as possible, with rules and premises that are logical and make sense. Same with any magic. Unless there's been a return, through some sort of cataclysm, to non-machine ways, I don't care for a mix of sword and sorcery and modern warfare (which there isn't, so far.)The books in this series are all you want in a fantasy- strong, believable characters, peoples and belief systems, a "save the world" theme, a believable world, magic, a good storyline, some mystery, good dialogue, etc.I was hooked from the first few pages in the first book and this second book is more of the same. Read, enjoy- I did.

I was really excited to get into the magic part of this series. I've seen some comparisons to Harry Potter, but other than they go to a school to learn how to harness magic, it reads nothing like J.K. Rowling's books. Nor is the school anything like Hogwarts.It took a while to get to Oden's Ford (wizarding/military school) but the book was fast-paced and chock full of awesomeness. Chima is an incredibly talented writer and creates a world that I can't wait to escape to.The only thing that disappointed me was that there were too many gaps in the schooling. I wanted to see more of the classroom, whether it was with Han learning to use his amulet or Raisa learning to be a soldier.I was so excited to see what would happen next that I burned through the book. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone who loves a good ya fantasy. I can't wait to start the next book!!

I am honestly really love this series. Although some elements are quite predictable (at least to me) everything remains entertaining just the same. I like that we got a change in setting for this novel. Call it the old Harry Potter lover in me, there is just something nostalgic about wizardy and school. Additionally, I am happy that we got to learn more about the many of the characters we were already introduced to.The protagonists continue to be flawed but root-able. The world they live in on course becomes far more complicated and interesting. I like Han and Raisa both are individuals and together. I like their friends and their struggles. Han and Dancer continue to be a great dynamic. They are very two very different people, but their friendship balances them. As for Amon and Raisa, despite being a big supporter of Han and Raisa, I truly feel for these two. In another life, under different circumstances they could have been really happy together. I like Amon, and honestly if there were some other girl that I could picture Han with I might not have minded if the author put Amon and Raisa together.

A fiery, thrilling, possessive read - THE EXILED QUEEN was an awesome followup to THE DEMON KING. I really loved reading this book and couldn't put it down. I thought that Han, Cat and Fire Dancer's journey was going to be my favorite part, but when all of the characters collided and an intricate siege for power took place (that, also, must have taken a ton of time to plot out), my heart was racing with them. Every paragraph the stakes rose, there was more to lose, and the Gray Wolves and wizards struggled harder to survive, much less to come out on top. THE EXILED QUEEN gets a well-deserved 5 stars, in my book. If you haven't read The Seven Realms series yet, you should. I read the first book (The Demon King) within a few short days and it didn't take me long to finish the Exiled Queen. Cinda Williams Chima knows how to grab a reader and pull them into her books. The first two of the series has done that. On to the Third. Don't miss out by not reading these, it will be your lose if you do not read. Well worth the time, Outstanding. Can't say enough about these books.

This second book is my favorite one out of the 4 part series (with another gorgeous book cover). Raisa has fled the Fells, poses under her past-used guise of Rebecca Morley, and enrolls as a cadet in the military academy of the neutral educational and training facility known as Oden's Ford. There, she hides out from the turmoil and danger descending upon the royal court and at the same time takes steps towards getting an education in military sciences and leadership, intent on learning skills to make her become a better queen. Han is also at Oden's Ford, in the hopes of learning how to master his newly discovered magical abilities. There is great buildup and anticipation in the beginning portion of the book for when these two characters' paths will inevitably cross.I really enjoyed the friendship that sprouts up between Raisa and Han when they do finally meet again. What I didn't like was the romance that develops later. Chima just did the Raisa-Amon relationship too well, and I was not ready to let it go. I didn't like how quickly Raisa was able to move on from Amon to Han, even though it was obvious from the beginning that those two were meant to be each other's main love interest. But I couldn't get into their romance and would have preferred them to just remain friends and allies who care about each other. But hey, that's just my opinion and I know I'm probably alone in that one.I liked the whole academy setting, and once again, the supporting characters are extremely well developed - Amon, Cat, Dancer, Micah and Fiona are all interesting in their own rights and are each dealing with their own personal issues which nicely add to the plot. The book ends with a cliffhanger, but the next book is already out so go ahead and pick up this next book in the Seven Realms series!

This is a wonderful, compact book that will be of great help to anyone who is experiencing physical or emotional suffering--or who is facing challenges in their life (I guess this includes most humans). It is not about the theology of suffering but rather a very personal book that puts the reader at its center--Powlison even says his book is a workshop for the reader to help him or her deal with suffering or loss. His empathy is deep and heartfelt, his knowledge of scripture outstanding, and the questions he asks the reader are penetrating. A very, very helpful book that stands out in a sea of cliched advice about suffering. Highly recommended.

This is a word of healing, a word of encouragement, and a word of hope to those of us who are suffering in this fallen world (and that is all of us). I can not recommend this book higher and I would run out of superlatives trying to express my admiration for this book. I encourage you to read it. It will minister to your heart and mind.

If you are walking through hard times, as many of us are at any given time, this book is like having a friend hold your hand and walk beside you. It is a little book that will help us affirm,"It is good for me that I have been afflicted."

Powlison refocuses us in the middle of our pain and teaches us how to look outward rather than inward. We grow and overcome when anchored in the firm foundation.

Very sound theologically, and very comforting. This is a book that I know I’ll read several times.

This is definitely a case of don't judge a book by its cover - or, in this case, a nurse by how she initially seems to be! Samantha Braithwaite is a nurse who is always striving to achieve more, though she initially seems very shy. She's working in ER who wants to join the Special Disasters Response Team but Dr Blake Cooper, the head of the team, thinks she's too quiet and shy - so she sets out to prove him wrong!I particularly enjoyed the background details of the training and courses these dedicated professionals have to attend to qualify to be members of such specialist teams. Samantha attends one such course in the Blue Mountains, trying to avoid being on one with the judgemental Dr Blake . . . . needless to say, he also ends up there but as the course leader! As sparks fly between the two, there's plenty of drama to keep readers turning the pages and enjoying this medical romance which I happily recommend to anyone who enjoys this genre.I requested and was given a copy of this book, via NetGalley. This is my honest review of the book after choosing to read it.

Samantha is a nurse who has relocated to Bondi Bay hospital. She's looking to be apart of the Specialist Disaster Response team and she's having a rough first day. It's something that Dr.Blake Cooper has noticed but its also that her her model like looks that has made her attractive to him. Dr. Blake Cooper is apart of that Disaster Response team and he doesn't think Samantha has what it takes but she'll try to prove him wrong.This was a pretty good book. I would've preferred for it to be longer but for the amount of pages there was this was a pretty good good, packed enough to keep things interesting. This is a good book if you are pressed for time. Actually even good for a summer beach read you can finish this book withing maybe 2 or 3 hours. So I thought that this book was interesting. I liked the character and getting to know them. I loved that attraction that was simmering between the two. I loved seeing Samantha trying to prove herself, she wasn't going to let Dr. Blake bring her down when he believed that she wouldn't be able to be apart of the team. She really did work on proving herself and didn't just take his word for it. Overall it was a pretty good book I enjoyed it.

Great reading plan! When combined by the H.E.A.R. Journaling method and prompter questions everyday, this is a valuable tool. Our oldest 4 children, along with my wife and I are doing this. Each do the study in the morning on their own, then in the evening we share out insights and responses to the reading. Very fruitful conversations take place each evening.

Great book to read with the Bible. I like that you read more bible than commentary.

Still working my way through this reading plan. Loving the outlines and the guided questions. Didn’t initially realize that it’s not a complete read through. It skips over some chapters. I’ve chosen to read extra in between to cover the entire bible, but still a good guide.

The app is free and has everything this book has.

I am using this for my daily Bible study and love the reading plan! The devotional open ended questions are great...thought provoking! I love using the HEAR Bible study method as well!

I am enjoying this method of Bible Study very much and the questions at the end of the page really help me to think through some of the devotional clearly and apply it.

I love this study! It is set up to where you read about 2 chapters 5 days a week. I find that I am able to keep up with it without getting behind. It focuses on all of the major passages in the Bible and skips some of the less applicable chapters. I love the journaling method that goes along with it. I've grown a lot just from reading God's Word and journaling about it, rather than just reading what some author has to say about it. This book works great to use in a small group setting as well.

The Promised Neverland is a bit of a different animal than most fantasy/sci fi Shounen manga: instead of endless powerups or random events, the story is about slowly but surely uncovering the truth about the world from which the kids have been sheltered. As such it is a bit of a slow burn but the constant reveals along with the focus on the kids using intellect and teamwork to outwit whatever besets them make it worth the read.Story: They have managed to survive all the way to the shelter promised by the mysterious William Minerva. But they find it is already inhabited - by an older escapee just like themselves! The problem is that he is hostile and does not want to share the small resources of the hideout bunker. The kids see it as an interim step to getting to the human world. But the stranger tells them they haven't faced true peril yet. Together, they create a bold plan to continue their quest.Thus far, we have had two arcs in the Promised Neverland: discovering their situation/plotting their escape, and then surviving the journey to the promised safe house. I thought this third arc would involve exploring the safe house and then deciding what to do next eventually. However, the story moves quite quickly and it is clear this third arc will be about reaching the next safe house promised by Minerva.We don't learn anything new about Minerva other than that he appeared to have set all this up years ago. But I also find it interesting that he left the 'pens' among many of the 'farms', to be found and then used to escape. Mysteries in the story currently involve the "poachers" as well as what happened to the strangers' colleagues who all perished years ago.In all, I am still very much enjoying this manga. I especially like that the plot pivots on the intelligence of the main characters and not random deus ex machina events or power ups. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.
