My son loves these books!! They are some of the few that he enjoys and takes the initiative to read- without my prodding him to. We've read the entire series (I read parts with him), and each book has a cute plot line, with a little life lesson. Highly recommend- so happy next book just came out!!

Love these books. Read them to my 9 year old grandson every night. Great series and we can't wait for more!

My son loves Minecraft. We have read this whole series together at night a couple of chapters at a time. My son is 6.5 and has a 3-4 grade reading level, so he can read these books by himself, but he doesn't get all of the jokes at his age, nor does he get the whole hate the parents tween angst, lol. And to be honest there are lots of cultural references that only an adult would get. But my son loves me to read these to him. And I try to explain the references, etc. He loves it when there is something new in the story,one that he recognizes from his Minecraft gaming world. For example, this story has an illager in it - villager without the V - he knew exactly what it was even though it's technically called something else in Minecraft - but his face just lights up when he makes these connections!Up until now, we've purchased all of the books in paperback, but we decided to try Kindle for this one, because we didn't want to wait for a new one to arrive, lol. We loved reading it on our iPad. In portrait, the words were larger, and of course having the electronic backlight made it easier to read while sharing the book in the dim bedroom. And... the pictures are in color! I thought that was especially cool considering that color isn't in the printed books. It made it much easier to see the detail in the Minecraft world pictures - sometimes those are hard to discern in the printed books in black and white.This book actually felt like a mash-up of a Pokémon episode and a Scooby Doo episode. At first, I found the Pokémon likeness annoying - though I like Pokémon fine. But then the story got really exciting when the characters attempted a daring rescue in a spooky mansion a la Scooby Doo. My son was totally engrossed and didn't want to put the book down to go to sleep, lol.You don't have to read the series in order, but Zombie gets older in each progressive book and the other kids in his group are explained in a lot more detail in earlier books, which makes less detail necessary in the later books. Like why Creepy is hissssssss-ing...Finally, these books are not as robust as something like Harry Potter, but they do have some originalish storylines that are interesting to kids, especially Minecraft fans, and also have good lessons woven in. And because they are less detailed than Harry Potter, they would appeal to reluctant readers.

I AM LOVING THE SERIES! More books PLEASE. And the Friday the 13th PART FREAKED ME OUT BUT NEED MORE BOOKS

Bought this as a gift for my Grandson. He absolutely loved it.

12 year old son loved the book. Though, of course, I wish he'd read something of more 'substance', at least he's reading. He laughs, comes to me and reads me passages. So, who am I to judge. These books could be his stepping stone to better things.Books are cheap enough. I can buy them online, so I don't have to endure snarky side eye from book store clerks buying them at a brick and mortar store. It's all good.

My kids actually giggle hard reading these series. My 10 year old loves Minecraft so it makes reading fun for our homeschool curriculum. I never have to ask twice to read. Give them books they are interested in and they will keep reading. He can't wait to see what happens next. We can't wait to read the other sets.

About the Author

Jeffrey C. Carrier, Ph.D. is Professor Emeritus of Biology at Albion College (MI) where he was a faculty member from 1979 to 2010. He earned a B.S. in Biology in 1970 from the University of Miami and completed a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Miami in 1974. While at Albion College, Dr. Carrier received multiple awards for teaching and scholarship and held Endowed Professorships in Biology. His primary research interests center on various aspects of the physiology and ecology of nurse sharks in the Florida Keys. His most recent work investigated the reproductive biology and mating behaviors of this species in a long-term study from an isolated region of the Florida Keys. Carrier’s projects with acoustic telemetry, animal-borne video, ultrasound and endoscopy, and BRUVs drives his interest in applications of technology to the study of the biology of sharks and their relatives. Dr. Carrier has been a long-time member of the American Elasmobranch Society, the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists, Sigma Xi, the Society for Animal Behavior, and the Council on Undergraduate Research. He served multiple terms as President of the American Elasmobranch Society and received several distinguished service awards from the society. He holds an appointment as an Adjunct Research Scientist with Mote Marine Laboratory’s Center for Shark Research. In addition to his publications in the scientific literature, he has written and edited five previously published books on sharks and their biology. Michael R. Heithaus, Ph.D., is a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences and Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences & Education at Florida International University in Miami, FL where he has been a faculty member since 2003. He received his B.A. in Biology from Oberlin College (1995) in Ohio and his Ph.D. from Simon Fraser University (2001) in British Columbia, Canada. He was a postdoctoral scientist and staff scientist at the Center for Shark Research and also served as a research fellow at the National Geographic Society’s Remote Imaging Department. At FIU, Dr. Heithaus served as the Director of the Marine Sciences Program before becoming the Director of the School of Environment, Arts, and Society. Dr. Heithaus is a behavioral and community ecologist. His main research interests are in understanding the ecological roles and importance of large predators, especially their potential to impact community structure through non-consumptive effects. His work also explores the factors influencing behavioral decisions, especially of large marine taxa including marine mammals, sharks and rays, and sea turtles, and the importance of individual variation in behavior in shaping ecological interactions. Dr. Heithaus’ is the co-lead of the Global FinPrint project - a world-wide survey of elasmobranchs on coral reefs. His lab is engaged in marine conservation and research projects around the world and has ongoing long-term projects in Shark Bay, Australia and the coastal Everglades of southwest Florida. Colin Simpfendorfer, PhD, is a Professor in the College of Science and Engineering at James Cook University (Queensland, Australia), and currently serves as the Associate Dean Research. He has also worked at in the Center for Shark Research at Mote Marine Laboratory (Florida) and the Shark Fisheries Section of the Western Australian Department of Fisheries (Perth, Australia). He received his BSc. (Marine Biology and Zoology) in 1986, and Ph.D. (Fisheries Science) in 1993, both from James Cook University. He has spent his career studying the life history, ecology, status and conservation of sharks and rays with the principle aim of providing scientific information for improving their management. He regularly provides scientific advice to governments, NGOs and industry. He has been at the forefront of applying new technology and approaches to sharks and rays, including early work on the analysis of acoustic telemetry data, using eDNA as a means of surveying for critically endangered sawfish, and is principle investigator for the Global Finprint project surveying sharks and rays on coral reefs globally. Dr Simpfendorfer is an author on over 200 peer-reviewed scientific papers on sharks and rays, and has trained more than 30 MSc and Ph.D. students (some of which have authored or co-authored chapters in this book). He is currently the Co-Chair of the IUCN Shark Specialist Group which works to improve the conservation status of this important group of ocean predators through assessing their status, developing conservation plans and delivering quality scientific information to decision makers. He also serves on Australia’s national Threatened Species Scientific Committee.

The author Hearn has a great flair for language and immersing one in the moment, he does a great job of describing life in the french antilles, from carnival time, industry,cultural anecdotes, interesting historical tidbits and the impact of colonization on its populace.I wanted to like this book more but as a person of African descent it was a bit hard too. Not out of place in his time, Hearn employs alot of racist language to describe the people of majoritavely African descent. They are "less than comely" and the African is "vulgar" while he seems enthralled by th mixed race people of Martinique, he also seems to find a savagery in their beauty attributed to their African heritage.Otherwise, it was an exuberant, languid depiction of the Islands, You could almost pick up the cadence of Creole being spoken and felt as you yourself ought to be careful to spot the much feared "fer de lance" snake as you traversed Martinique's glowing hills with Mont Pelée fuming in the distance.If you enjoy Caribbean literature particularly that concerning the French Antilles i would recommend authors like Raphael Confiant, Maryse Conde , Gisele Pineau ,Jacques Roumain and others.

I love everything I have read by Lafcadio Hearn. Living in New Orleans I started with his writings about my city. Because I read his writings about Japan I have visited there several times. Yes, this is a Haggadah but it is more than a Haggadah … it connects the text with our past and our future, making it relevant for the present. Rabbi Blech has taken a half century of his teaching to a generation of American Jews and put it into print for those who have not been privileged, like I have, to learn firsthand from him. This Haggadah contains within it a deeper understanding of everything from Maimonides 13 Principles of Faith to the different names of God, to an understanding of the Jewish calendar and when can we expect the arrival of the Messiah. Not bad for a Haggadah! But this is much more than a Haggadah … this book is an encyclopedia of Jewish knowledge that every Jewish person can learn from and understand.

This thoughtful and well written book elevated our family seder. Rabbi Blech is a a community treasure and his insights are transformational.Based on this truly unique book, I was able to create this memorable outline which I shared at my seder table (see attached) . A must buy or borrow for 2018.

The tips on what to see and do, what to eat, and descriptions and prices of the various restaurants were invaluable. My family was always borrowing it.The guide book gave great insights into the history of Spain and the part the various sections of the Basque lands played in it. The book informed me that Henry IV of Navarre became King Henry IV of France in 1589 (he was one of France's greatest kings and in 1664 completed Pont Neuf, the most famous bridge in Paris),that a majority of the crews of the Spanish Armada were Basques, and that Columbus has some Basques to guide him when he explored the New World.Bilbao & The Basque Lands is great reading. I will keep it in my library to read for entertainment or to refer to from time to time now that my family no longer hogs it. Amazon

The only drawback with this book is that it is slightly out-dated, but I knew that when I ordered a used book. The book itself was in excellent condition. The information is easy to read and well-organized. Something that would help even more would be to add more detailed maps.

A very interesting guidebook to Bilbao and surrounding areas including the French Basque region. Great and lengthy historical and cultural introduction, many sidenotes that have been well-researched. Probably an excellent guide if you plan to drive the region with descriptions of several routes and geographical organization. (You would still want some excellent highway maps.) However, if you plan to use public transit, specific helpful data are lacking. Reviews of lodging, restaurants, attractions are out-of-date despite 2003 copywrite. Some attractions are closed and many prices are way off.

I had planned a 1 week trip to Bilbao for business (with a companion) and was desparate to find a guidebook on the city. I was just lucky enough to have the 4th edition of Bilbao and the Basque Lands (BBL) published days before departure (with no stock in the 3rd edition??).Although this book is the only real thorough guidebook I found that focuses on Bilbao and the Basque region, it is certainly a first rate guide. Although I didn't explore every corner of the city, I was able to use the many maps, restaurant recommendations, Guggenhiem info, language guide, as well as understand the history and customs of the region.For those who have time to explore more surrounding areas (the north Coast, Vittoria, San Sebastian, etc), I think this book is your best resource. I'm not a guidebook person, but this one is highly recommended.
