About the Author

While attending college at Nihon University, in 1988, Kentaro Miura debuted a 48-page manga known as Berserk Prototype, an introduction to the current Berserk fantasy world. It went on to win Miura a prize from the Comi Manga School. In 1989, after receiving a doctorate degree, Kentarou started a project titled King of Wolves based on a script by Buronson, writer of Hokuto no Ken (Fist Of The North Star).In 1990, the first volume Berserk was released with a relatively limited success. Miura again collaborated with Buronson on manga entitled Japan. Miura's fame grew after Berserk began "The Golden Age" story arc and the huge success of this masterpiece made of him one of the most prominent contemporary manga artists.In 1997, Miura supervised the production of 25 anime episodes of Berserk that aired in the same year on NTV. The series has also spawned a whole host of merchandise, both official and fan made, ranging from statues and action figures, to key rings, video games, and a trading card game. In 2002, Kentaro Miura received the second place in the Tezuka Osamu (Astro Boy) Cultural Prize of Excellence for Berserk. The author lives in Tokyo, Japan.

This review is purely based on the volume's quality itself, as going into the story would be spoiler territory at this point in the series.Dark horse appears to have had some quality control issues around the time I purchased this, or maybe a bad production batch was pushed out to market around 2015. About 1/4 of the book has very faded ink, almost as though the rollers/distributor tool used to place ink on the page was running low or malfunctioning. The pages themselves feel good, but seeing a barely inked page inbetween ones that are as they should be takes you out of the story; essentially it ends up taking you out of the moment.Maybe recent productions have fixed this, but I've seen this same problem with volumes 27 and 28. Disheartening, but alas! Still a great volume with many important plot points. Bought to support Miura and to hopefully conclude the series one day.

not just one of the best manga ever written, but one of the best books ever written. i think berserk as a series is better than the watchmen was, and that's saying a lot. you could teach a full on college class about the allegory in this series. not a single bad volume out of 37....

As a Berserk fan, you need this volume.

Arrived in grea conidtion. I love reading this series.

I like this series a lot, but it is starting to take to long to get to any climax in the books. The story line is interesting, but as most books do, it portrays the main female as helpless and completely dependent. At first she was amazing, independant and strong (also a b-otch) but now, as usuall, she is no longer. I find that aspect frustrating. There are a lot of monsters, esexual oddities, and magic through out the series. But the books can drag at times. maybe I am just inpatient. Still fun to read.

But from reading other reviews and listening to those who recommended it to me, I am confident this was a good purchase.I can however at least speak on the condition of the book I received. It arrived very quickly and in wonderful condition (pictures included in my review). The print is great and the book is definitely brand new. I was very happy this book included the author's own personal Book of Shadows. From what I understand, you should make your own Book of Shadows to fit your own needs/beliefs, but it is really helpful to have an example to get an idea of how you will want yours to be.I can not wait to continue reading this book. I most likely will update my review after I finish to add more details if I feel it necessary.

This book was recommended to me by a friend, then it kept popping up all around me. I think it's very important simply cause there is a strong emphasis on being a part of a coven in most other books. I still don't feel safe coming out into the real world and feel like people would laugh at me for calling myself a Witch. I'm grateful for this book, it makes me feel safe.

This book's first chapter explains Wicca better than anything I have ever read. It would be a great gift for someone who didn't understand what Wicca truly was, or as just a gift to those interested! This book is very "readable", I didn't have any trouble with boring parts. I bought it used, but it looks and reads fine.This would not be what you're looking for if you want a "magic" or "spell" book. This book isn't for Hogwarts, it's for the nature friendly free spirits who want to understand and relate to the wiccan way of life.

Scott Cunningham is a genius when it comes to writing and explaining Wicca. He writes in an easy to read manner and makes complicated ideas clear. He starts by explaining Wicca's background and brings us into what Wicca is today and how we fit in as solitary practitioners. He takes us through all the important aspects of Wicca, emphasizing the main laws and introducing us to guidelines for proper conduct of a Witch.This book includes careful instruction regarding the creating of energy; magic and spells; rituals; making the circle; drawing the quarters and invoking the God and Goddess. It has many spells and rituals laid out with step by step instructions and beautiful prayers which you can use in your own rituals.This is a book that I keep in my library and refer to often. If you are a solitary Wiccan, or just interested, then this is a must have book.

I was always interested in wicca but it seemed unattainable, unapproachable. I stumbled upon this book and the description spoke to me. Anyone looking to step into the craft should look no further than this book. Cunningham has such a wonderful voice! He guides the reader but refrains from judgement or narrow rules. It's a great beginner's guide and will leave you wanting more. After you read this you need to get his other publications. Cunningham lays out the foundation and inspires. This book includes a book of shadows, some herb listing, and all the basics of modern Wicca. It's a classic. I've become a huge fan, and this book was the start. May he rest in peace.

Andreas Fickers is Professor of Contemporary and Digital History and Director of the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History at Luxembourg University (C2DH). He is currently doing research on the methodological and epistemological challenges of digital historiography.  Pascal Griset is Professor of History in Sorbonne University, France.
